Grammy Nominated Mariachi Sol de Mexico de Jose Hernandez

As true representatives of a treasured cultural heritage, Sol de Mexico is cohesive, dynamic team that has accepted the vision to live on as the Nation's Premier Mariachi. More than anyone else, Maestro Hernandez is responsible for the recognition the colorfully passionate music is getting through out the world. Each musical artist of Sol de Mexico brings a refined expertise together, vocal power and superb musicianship. With their joyful pulse, the 14 member mariachi group personifies the mood of their homeland and people.

More than once, Hollywood cinema has beckoned. Jose's first movie break came by creating part of the soundtrack for the movie Old Gringo, with Jane Fonda. He followed soon after with the soundtrack for American Me with Edward James Olmos, a Million to Juan with Paul Rodriguez and Ruben Blades and the soundtrack of Don Juan de Marco with Marlon Brando and Johnny Depp and Disney's The Wonderful Ice Cream Suit with Esai Morales and Edward James Olmos. At the 68th Academy Awards Jose performed with Bryan Adams the nominated song "Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman". Performing at the 1st Annual Latin Grammy's with Alejandro Fernandez and performing in the movie "Seabiscuit" by Universal.

Mariachi Sol de Mexico emerges as the rightful heir to the title of "The Nation's Premier Mariachi" Even jaded critics are sitting up and taking notice. Hernandez's compositions are so bright, sometimes even unabashedly neon: splashy celebrations. No one else on the mariachi music scene navigates the warm waters of classical, pop, jazz, swing, and Broadway tunes with such grace. To listeners weaned on traditional mariachi sounds, Jose's organic, irreverent renditions are becoming instant classics. His release on Capitol Records label~ "New York New York", "Are You Lonesome Tonight", "A Tribute to the Evolution of Mariachi Music", and "Corazon Buena Noches" - are bold and assertive. The four CD's evidence little of the tradition we have come to associate with mariachi music, but then Jose has always had a knack for investing his noble mariachi music tradition with raw contemporary passion and powerful new rhythms, on the EMI Latin Label is "La Nueva Era Del Mariachi", "Acapulco girls" with the Beach Boys and "Mexico Canta" with Mariachi Sol de Mexico.

On the Fonovisa record label is their 8th CD released in 2000' and nominated for a Grammy in 2001' "Tequila con Limon" con el Mariachi Sol de Mexico.

Mariachi Sol de Mexico's 9th CD "Sentimiento Ranchero", released in 2004

Under the leadership of Maestro Hernandez, Mariachi Sol de Mexico was the first mariachi in the United States to perform in the classical music circuit. He has taken his innovative talents on the road, performing in the New Mexico, Denver, Sacramento, San Francisco and Inland Empire Symphony Orchestras as well as with the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Since 1981, Maestro Hernandez set the scene for the tide of creative irreverence that set the Latin musical world afire. He has an excellent knowledge of music history, and his musical inspirations ricochet from Bach to Leonard Berstien to Augustine Lara to Jose Alfredo Jimenez.

They have recorded with the most respected and recognized names in the industry, including: Selena, Linda Rondstadt, Vikki Carr, Willie Nelson, Juan Gabriel, Lucha Villa, Lola Beltran, Vicente Fernandez, Rocio Durcal, Guadalupe Pineda, Los Jaguares, and Green Day.

The Mariachi tours have become an international institution, a traveling cultural icon that symbolizes eclectic musicianship and communal cross-generational joy. From Puerto Rico to Hawaii, from Latin America to the most famous symphonic venues in the world. Sol de Mexico's performances are consistently sold out. The Mariachi has traveled worldwide to Spain, Vina del Mar, Chile, the Bahamas and Hawaii performing in prestigious venues.

Mariachi Sol de Mexico is the 1st mariachi ever to perform in the Socialist Countries of China and North Korea and the 1st mariachi group to be nominated for a Grammy.

Jose is also unmistakably intense when it comes to expanding the boundaries of mariachi music. His music is known to be challenging, yet quite accessible, rhythmic, and yet never predictable. He took on the ambitious task of forming his own symphony orchestra; The Sol de Mexico Symphony Orchestra. They have been invited to perform his symphonic orchestrations.
