Currently the Guest Principal Trumpet of the West Australian Symphony Orchestra (WASO), Brent Grapes has performed in orchestras and solo competitions around the world. Born in Perth, Brent completed his initial studies at the University of Western Australia. In 2007, Brent was accepted into The Juilliard School in New York, where he studied with Raymond Mase and Mark Gould. During his time in New York, Brent established himself as both a soloist and orchestral trumpeter, winning first place in the Juilliard School concerto competition in 2007. Brent was also the first person to be awarded first place two years running in the graduate division of the US National Trumpet Competition.
From 2008-2010, Brent was a member of the UBS Verbier Festival Orchestra, and regularly performs with orchestras around the world. Brent was appointed Principal Trumpet with the Auckland Philharmonia since August 2009 and whilst in Auckland was artist-teacher trumpet at the University of Auckland.
In March 2013 Brent moved to Perth where he took up a position as guest Principal Trumpet with the WASO. He is also the Head of Brass at the West Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA).
